19 views and not one single comment. hmmm i guess my post here was a waste of my time.
i know you are all anti clipping , but each situation is different.
even though i would like to have a flighted bird, its just not safe here.
i guess i know what it feels like to be shunned, i will not bother you with any more posts.

I don't think you were shunned. Maybe people did not have a chance to reply yet ?

Not everyone is against clipping here. I know I'm not. I've had flighted birds and the one I have now has been severily clipped, not by me, he was like that when I bought him from the pet store.

I still have not decided if I will let him fly when he can, or not, because just like you, I don't consider my house safe for a flighted bird. I will decide after I have seen how he behaves when he is completely flighted.

Don't be afraid to discuss your birds " unflightedness ", this forum has respectful members.

thanks for your reply. i have to do whats best for my birds. Skittles had one last free flight this morning, landing on my windowsill and knocking over a vase. its only a matter of time before she gets good at it and finds Marnies cage an inviting landing spot. a no no
so i gave her a light clipping. what a difference! she came sailing out into the kitchen but only a few feet off the floor. much much better! can't crash into windows at that level ;)

i didnt reply because i dont know enough yet :D im new at birds and dont have any opinion about flight... i can definitly see advantages in clipping in some cases. i hope you dont feel shunned because these kind of discussions about clipping are very important for new parrot owners, its a big decision to make. i think us newbies mostly just "listen in" on these clipping threads.

Sorry I didn't see it!!! My reply would have been I would have clipped her too, if she had been posing a danger to herself by flying into things which, by your explanation, is what had been happening (i.e. window crashes) I am actually thinking about re-clipping Archimedes, because he keeps wanting to fly INTO (like, crash into) his cage. He can reeeally hurt himself doing that. :?

its ok, i was just so worked up about this "big decision" it was driving me nuts.
bottom line is i needed to do what i felt was best for my bird.
so i did a light clip and she is fine and i am very happy with it. i can always take more off if i really want to ground her but that was not my issue. it was her saftey and now with her flying being really low i think she will be fine and still be able to get her exercise.
thanks for your input :)
