Poor Truman ... You're not really getting a break from worrying about him.

I can't really assist with how to clean the scratch and I think its a good idea that you take him back to the vet. Be sure to let us know what they suggest for cleaning ... I know I'd be learning something new. The xray will give you a good idea of how his leg is healing as well.

Good luck at the vet. Let us know how it goes.

Here are some pictures of the damage:

He seems to be scratching an awful lot so I'm particularly worried about him infecting it. It looked borderline ready to bleed before but a little less bad now. He's in normal spirits though so I don't think he sustained any serious damage. I'm still gonna bring him to the vet though cause there are two places of possible concern and an xray would greatly help to clarify.

Poor Truman can't catch a break. I've heard that some baby birds are just clumsy as juveniles so I'm hoping that this is a stage that Truman will grow out of. Let us know asap what the vet says! I'll be thinking about Truman in the meantime.

Hi Michael:

If a bird hits a window, the first thing I check are the pupils. If the bird's pupils stay dilated, you have a problem. If they can move the pupils in and out, the bird is fine.

The cere scratch really doesn't look like any thing to worry about. Can't tell about the leg.

Good luck and thanks

I dont think you need to worry about the bump on the head. He flew back to you right after crashing, that would indicate that he didnt get a concussion or anything. I think his nose will be a little itchy from the scraping. Remember when you scrape your knee, once the pain is over it starts itching. Thats a sign its healing.

Kika still doesnt 'know' he cant fly and dropped from the top of his cage right to the bottom a couple of times this week (about 2 feet hight). He bumped his nose on one of the perches, I assume, since hes got a scrape on his nose. It had bled, I could see the crust on. But since he looks ok and the injury didnt look infected or angry I just left t the way it was.

But its never a bad idea to get a check up. Especially with the still healing fracture.
What weight is he on now?

a few months ago we had the blinds open and Jake was on DH's shoulder. For no reason he took off at full speed right into the window, only 18 inches away. He had the same sort of scratch on his cere area. We left it alone and it healed quickly and painlessly. But with Truman having a bum leg, I'd be worried too :?
