Parrots evolved to eat A LOT of fiber - something that pellets do not really provide as most pellets have fiber added instead of using natural fiber which is the only fiber that actually works for them (there is a study done with African Grays) - and that is another reason why they need to eat A LOT of produce every single day (seeds are VERY low in fiber, too - flax seeds have the most but you can't feed too many of these so...)
