Yeah, I guess it makes sense to wait until there are a ton more people signed up.

yes one where you can just post pictures of you with your birds or of your birds, other types of birds, birds around your area with pictures and videos etc..

and maybe another one for when your getting a new birds and want to know about housing and diet and training all in one post. not wanting to post it on 3 different sections.

Could we have a Buy/Swap/Sell section? Where we can advertise new or used products for sale. Or place wanted adds. And if people have a little business and sell specific things, they could advertise that. Say if they make play stands, training perches, toys, etc.

Integration with the Tapatalk Android app would be nice. Maybe a sort of archive with details about different types of parrots so people can have a good basis to go on if they're looking for the right parrot for them.

Michael wrote:Ok, not bad ideas. However, I don't think these need an entire section as much as a long single thread similar to:

Share photos of your flock here
Seriously Idiotic Parrot Owners

So feel free to start threads to give people a place to post interesting videos they come across or review breeders. However, I do not think these two things merit entire sections on their own like Housing, Parrot Species, Taming/Training, etc.
I like pchela's idea of separating photo's and video's, but I also see your point about them not requiring entire sections on their own.

What if there were to be a section devoted entirely to Parrot eMedia (or something like that). Within that section we could locate all of the long single threads with photos and videos. The subject of the threads could be descriptive of it's contents:

-Photos of your flock
-idiotic parrot owners
-pictures of babies, or, the "Awwwww!" thread
(Where all of our breeder-friends can show off their young-uns)
-photos of my aviary/bird room/cage set-up
-cute you-tube videos
-teaching/training videos
-how-to videos
-And more that I'm sure I haven't thought of yet.

That would get all of the media centrally located, and would make things easy to find. If it were me, I'd say all media would be posted in one place, and if referenced elsewhere in the forum (i.e. a how-to make a toy video referenced in the DIY section), link to the video section rather than post the video in the DIY.

Anyway, that's my $0.05 worth! (And I like the DIY, etc section idea. I'm already trying to do some of that - poorly, but I'm trying!)

That's a totally reasonable idea but I still wonder if it's better to have photos/media on a section by section basis (training photos in training, grooming photos in care, etc) or a separate section just for media. I accept the idea but unless I'm convinced it is better consolidated that way then section by section, I wouldn't make the change. Only if it improves the forum and usability.

Michael wrote:What about making it a bit more broad and calling it something like "Parrot toys, accessories, and DIY"? That way everything toy related would end up there as we don't have a specific toy section at this time.

Still, I'd need to be assured that at least 10+ topics could be started almost immediately to get it going and that there would be continued interest in such a section in the long term to justify it's presence. By all means, I'd be thrilled to create a section that sparks new participation but the last thing I want to do is water down the forum by making too many categories.

Topics:
-What kind of trees are safe to cut perches from?
-Does anyone have any websites where you can order safe supplies to make toys with?
-General guidelines for safety in toy making.
-What to look for in buying toys for your bird
-What's the real deal on Zinc?
-Is it safe to buy used toys?

Is that what you're looking for?
