Postby Lady Scarlet » Wed Apr 21, 2010 8:34 pm

Hi,
My name is Jen and I am proudly owned by an Umbrella Cockatoo, a Female Eclectus, a Rose Breasted Cockatoo, a Scarlet Macaw, a Severe Macaw...that has been featured in Bird Talk Magazine March 2010 as well as the other rescues that I have in my home. I run a bird rescue and I love all animals.
I also have 2 Rescue Kittens and 2 Cats as well as my 2 dogs.

Hi Jen and welcome to the board!

That's quite the flock you have and thank god there are people like you that are willing and able to run a rescue out of their homes. I'll be sure to take a look at your site when I have a few minutes.

wow thats an impressive site you have and very well done. have the parrots on your site all got behaviour problems? have they all been mistreated? thats too sad for words. can you cure them of there problems or do you just put have to put up with them. its sad that some will never have homes. :senegal:

Thanks guys for the compliments on my site :) I work hard on it.

Many of the parrots are abuse cases I would say about 65% of them. I specialize in Plucking/Mutilation behaviors so many other rescues send those birds to me to "fix". Some are "damaged beyond repair" and they will stay in the sanctuary or will be adopted out if some special amazing family comes along which has happened.

It takes months and sometimes years to train, and gain the trust of a severely abused bird. I have a Umbrella (Marie) that was abused beyond words and I have had her for over a year and she is still very very neurotic and still "damaged" she will stay here for as long as she lives so she can have a chance at a happy life.

I also have 2 outdoor aviaries and that really helps with the behaviors!
