Making toys out of sponge?

Postby Matt Alyk » Mon Oct 20, 2014 6:49 pm

So, I'm brainstorming of various types of toys I could possibly make. One of my ideas is a toy with sponges. They seem like they would be very fun to shred. However, I'm concerned how safe this would be. Does anyone know any possible safety issues (new clean sponge, not used). Also, I want to hear how some of you guys make your toys for future reference!

I have not given much thought to sponges but just off the top of my head, I know that if the sponge is not of organic origins then I would definitely not use it. I still don't know about natural ones yet.

Loofas are a bit different than sponges and I have heard of them being use in toys for birds. Again, for me the jury on them is still out although I would think that loofas are safer than are sponges as the swell up less in the presence of moisture, and they also draw less moisture than sponges from surrounding tissues.
