U2 Flying

Postby Dinho » Wed Jun 13, 2012 10:37 am

Hi,
:cockatoo:
Ive recently bought an Umbrella Cockatoo who is currently clipped but has about half of his flight feathers back. I would much rather let him be flighted but I am concerned about how to first "birdproof" my house if you will. What things should I remove from where he will be primarily, what should I add, and how can I make certain spots "off-limits" to him?

Thanks :D

I saw this video earlier. I think it's sufficient.
Then again, I'm no expert, and a U2 is far different than a sun conure.

If you buy and start training on these perches before he can even fly, he'll be more likely to stay on them and fly to them to poop. They provide the methodology for getting a previously clipped parrot flying again. Since they get rewarded a lot for being on them, this is a strong alternative to going to places you don't want them to go (not complete but a HUGE improvement over doing nothing).
