Freeflightand windows

Postby Tman007 » Thu Jul 10, 2014 12:02 pm

I was thinking about this I know you can't do this to every window. But I have a window in the birds room so I came up with running a rope across the whole room right in front of the window. So that when they fly to the window they have some were to land and see that they can't get out. My thinking is that sometimes a bird may hit the window because they can't stop. with this perch across the window they do. Here are a few pictures. :gcc: :jenday:

I forgot to mention that I used eye hooks and snaps on the rope so I can take it down when I want.

I really don't think that the reason for them hitting window is that they can't stop, I think it has more to do with the fact that windows are transparent and are difficult for the bird to see in time to stop. Once they are aware that there is a window in a certain location they quit having this problem. Still the rope in front of the window is a good idea and should help a lot.

You can order decals from Amazon (or elsewhere) that are nearly transparent to us but very visible to birds and stick them on your windows to help with this problem. They work great. We use them on our deck because the panels in the railings are glass instead of wood and we had a couple of chickadee fatalities that we don't want to repeat. Just search for "window decals for birds" or similar and several options should pop up.
