This is a study done on dogs comparing to reactions in humans brains. It differentiates words the dogs know (like praise or commands), words the dogs don't associate with anything (just chatting) and tones of voice. They found that dogs brains react pretty much like humans brains but I bet that, if they did a study on parrots, they would find that they react exactly the same!
