Rainbows 'explosion' and hybrids

Postby Pajarita » Mon Dec 09, 2019 10:27 am

There is, apparently (actually, there are no official records), a population explosion of rainbow lorikeets in Tasmania where they are not native (mind you, Tasmania is an Australian island and lorikeets ARE native to Australia, it's only that rainbows are native to another part of Australia) and they are interbreeding with the local species of lorikeets. But, as it's the norm with humans, all birds that eat fruits or grains are 'pests' and often give the excuse of them interfering with native species (something that has been debunked and what we would call 'fake news') so they can get rid of them. Australia has been criticized extensively for the huge decline in wildlife and this is another example of why it's happening...
